Progress through Peace and Unity

Building a Stronger Liberian Community on the NorthShore

This organization was created in response to tragedy in our community. and today it stands as a symbol of unity, support, and progress.

Our History (The Black Book)

The Liberian Association of the North Shore was founded in 2001 during a period of deep sorrow within the community. Its formation was prompted by the tragic loss of a young Liberian woman whose life was taken by her boyfriend, an act that profoundly affected families and community members alike.
In the wake of this tragedy, community leaders and members came together in solidarity and established what became known as the “Black Book.” This initiative was created as a structured means of providing support, coordination, and collective response during times of grief and bereavement.
Over the years, the Black Book has evolved into a cornerstone of unity and compassion within the Liberian community on the North Shore. It has played a vital role in mobilising assistance, creating bonds, and ensuring that no member faces loss or hardship alone. Through this enduring tradition, the Association continues to strengthen its bonds, uphold cultural values of mutual care, and promote a spirit of collective responsibility.
Today, the Liberian Association of the North Shore stands as a symbol of resilience, solidarity, and community-driven support, built upon a foundation of shared experiences and a commitment to one another’s well-being.

Our President (President Deacon Rufus Ireland)

A devoted servant of our Lord God, a loving husband, a proud father, and a steadfast friend to all whose lives he touches, President Deacon Rufus Ireland stands as a beacon of faith-driven leadership and selfless service.
Deacon Ireland first stepped into community leadership in 2015, answering a clear call to strengthen the bonds that hold our people together. From the very beginning, his commitment was marked by quiet excellence.
He served faithfully as secretary under the last three presidents—Mr. Sylvester Yarpah, Mr. Stanley Langar, and Mr. Saah Tamba—learning from each administration while bringing his own steady wisdom and tireless work ethic to every task. That dedicated service has proven both selfless and invaluable. Working alongside several respected leaders, Deacon Ireland combined decades of collective experience into meaningful progress. Under his steady hand, our community proudly hosted two conservative flag-raising ceremonies at Lynn City Hall—powerful public affirmations of our shared heritage and values.
His humility, however, has always been his greatest strength. It was this spirit of service that led to the certification of eleven outstanding members of our community, publicly honoring their vital contributions to our mission and inspiring others to step forward.
Today, as President, Deacon Ireland carries a clear and compassionate vision: to build a stronger, more unified community where the youth are empowered to thrive and the elderly are honored and cared for with dignity. He has launched a bold advancement initiative to rebuild our community financially and restore its intended structural values—laying a firm foundation for generations to come.
Through every season of leadership, Deacon Ireland has shown that true strength flows from humility, faith, and love for others. His life is a living testimony that one person, fully surrendered to God’s purpose, can lift an entire community.
May God continue to bless and guide our President, Deacon Rufus Ireland, as he leads us forward with grace, integrity, and unwavering hope.
